I have had an interest in the history of war for a long time now. My Grandfather, Jim Gannan, joined the Australian Imperial Force on 8 July 1915 serving in the 5th Infantry Battalion until he was wounded in action in France on 18 August 1916. My Father, Gerry Gannan, enlisted in the Royal Australian Air Force on 1 March 1941 and was demobilised on 12 December 1945. I, Paul, enlisted in the Australian Regular Army on 25 March 1963 and became an Infantryman, serving in various Battalions of the Royal Australian Regiment, various Headquarters and other units in Australia and oversea until my discharge on 14 December 1983. My war was Vietnam 1967/68 and 1971/72.
